Maldives will celebrate the 60th anniversary of its independence on 26 July with a series of events, including float parades, cultural performances, and military displays.
To mark the milestone, government offices will remain closed until 28 July, with a full programme of activities planned across Male' and Hulhumale'.
Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage has announced the official schedule for Independence Day events.

Key Independence Day activities:
- Saturday, 26 July:
6:00 am: National flag-raising ceremony at Republic Square
4:15 pm: Sports and cultural activities at Republic Square, including a military drill by Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), parades by the National Cadet Corps, school groups and cultural activities
8:30 pm: Official ceremony to mark Independence Day at Social Centre
- Sunday, 27 July:
Evening parades by the MNDF and Cadet Corps on the main streets of Male' and Hulhumale'
8:30 pm: Independence Day parade in Male'
- Monday, 28 July:
Evening parade and float procession on the main streets of Hulhumale'
8:30 pm: Parade and float display at Central Park, Hulhumale'
The parade, float displays and stadium activities are among the most popular events among the public and are expected to draw large crowds.
Government offices will reopen on 29 July following the conclusion of the celebrations.
