Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has begun the signing of the 4,000 flat Gedhoruveriya project.

HDC has made arrangements for the signing to take place at Hulhumale' Synthetic Track. They will be calling for people in a specific order. HDC said the signing will take place every day (excluding weekends and public holidays) from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.

The list from the previous government regarding the building of the flats from FDC in Hulhumale' has been gazetted, with the current governments ruling being to issue flats to the names on that list.

The flat list was announced on 15th November 2023, two days before the current administration went into office. Complaints were raised regarding the list to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The commissions investigation showed that there were many individuals on the list that didn't meet the requirements.

The list had 3,721 people that met the requirements for three-room apartments, with 1,218 people meeting the requirements for two-room flats.

The Housing Ministry said today that when the permanent list was announced, the people who didn't meet the requirements after information verification were notified.

FDC is receiving information by the Housing Ministry as to the names and information of the people in the flat list who are eligible, with the Gedhoruveriya Portal being used to inform people as well.

FDC will be handling the signing dates and all other relevant information.

People have expressed concern that the signing is being done by people who have been removed from the list, along with the list that hasn't been gazetted.

Housing Minister Dr. Abdulla Muththalib stated today that there has been no mention of a list to be released, aside from the permanent one, and that that is something that hasn't ever been done.

The housing project was handed over to two Indian companies, with the two-room apartments being given for MVR 7,000, along with a MVR 1,000 monthly maintenance fee and a security deposit of MVR 15,000.

Three-room apartments are set to be given for MVR 9,500, with a maintenance fee of MVR 1,500 and a security deposit of MVR 25,000.

FDC's Managing Director Hamdhan Shakeel has stated that the keys to the apartment will only be handed over after the security deposit has been settled, even if the agreement has been signed, and that the people will have enough time to pay the deposit.

"Work is being completed in order to have the first residents move in by next year September. That is a reasonable amount of time for people to acquire the keys to their apartment," stated the Managing Director.

FDC has said that the 4,000 flats will be handed over after the finishing work is completed. Fans, windows, doors and tiles will be installed. The flat will also be fully painted and have a toilet and wash basin installed.
