The Maldives Police Service has begun towing vehicles parked in prohibited areas across Hulhumalé as part of an ongoing initiative to improve road safety and enforce traffic regulations.
In a statement shared via Facebook, Hulhumalé police confirmed that the operation targets vehicles obstructing pedestrian pathways and traffic flow, specifically those parked on crosswalks and double lines.

“This is part of our broader effort to ensure that roads remain safe and accessible for all users,” the post read.
The towing operation extends to streets in both Hulhumalé and Malé. According to police statistics, a total of 420 vehicles were towed from Majeedhee Magu and Boduthakurufaanu Magu last month for illegal parking violations.
Authorities have previously stated that vehicles towed for illegal parking will be held for a minimum of 48 hours before being released. To retrieve a vehicle, owners must pay a release fee of MVR 750 in addition to any existing traffic fines and outstanding annual vehicle fees.

The police urge all drivers to adhere to parking regulations to avoid penalties and to help maintain smooth traffic flow, particularly in high-density areas of the capital region.
