As part of ongoing efforts to combat flooding in the capital during rainy season, Malé City Council has announced a tender for the supply of two additional high-capacity water pumps.

Interested parties are invited to attend an information session tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. at the City Council office on Boduthakurufaanu Magu. Price proposals will be opened at the same location on July 31 at 9:00 a.m.

Eligibility is limited to local companies, partnerships, local investors, and registered business permit holders.

The move follows the council’s earlier acquisition of two Global Pump 6 GST Sea Moveman pumps in March, which significantly boosted the city's drainage capacity.

Each unit is capable of discharging 11,356 liters of water per minute, a considerable upgrade from the previous pumps that had capacities of 1,300 and 900 liters per minute, respectively.

Currently, one of the Global Pumps is actively being used to manage floodwaters across Malé.

The council has stated that expanding pump capacity is a priority as seasonal rains continue to expose long-standing drainage limitations across the capital.
