Two people sailing in a dinghy have been saved after their vessel capsized.
MNDF said that Police received reports of a dinghy sailing outside GDh. Madaveli capsizing at around 8:39am today.
Police and MNDF search teams responded to the reports. Police said that when in the area, MNDF had also come across an additional dinghy in the area.
At 11:04am, the capsized dinghy was found with both sailors sitting atop the overturned boat. The two sailors, aged 40 and 66, were found safe and unharmed, Police said.
Torrential rain, thunderstorms, and high winds have resulted in significant damage across the country, including reports of roofs being torn off homes, uprooted trees, and similar incidents on multiple islands.
MET Office has cautioned seafarers to take precaution as rough seas and adverse weather conditions are predicted over the coming days.
MET Office forecasts similar adverse weather conditions for the next three days. Conditions are expected to be most severe in north and central Maldives.
