Ministry estimates over 700 transfers from islands to Male' schools

Ministry of Education has said that they estimate there will be upwards of 700 transfers from schools in the atolls to Male' area schools for the upcoming academic year.

Ministry of Education has said that they estimate there will be upwards of 700 transfers from schools in the atolls to Male' area schools for the upcoming academic year.

Speaking in State media TVM's 'Hendhunu Hendhuna' morning show, Education Development Professional, Male' Zone Coordinator Abdul Waliyyu Ali said that the number of requests for transfer of students from atoll schools to Male' area schools are seeing a rise.

He said that this had been anticipated, and related arrangements had been made in preparation. He said that the ministry estimates around 700 transfers will be requested.

"In total, there are about 2000 students looking to enroll in Grade 1 (in the Male' area). There are another 1,800 or more students at the LKG and foundation stage," he said.

Also speaking on the program, State Minister Hussain Saeed said that students will get the opportunity to study in a school of their choice. He further stated that provisions have been ensured for students from atolls to secure enrollment in Male' area schools.

As per statistics shared by the ministry in May, 4,443 students have transferred from atoll schools to Male' area schools since 2020.
