The Maldivian government will extend formal invitations to all former presidents and vice presidents to attend the official 60th Independence Day ceremony, Culture and Heritage Minister Adam Naseer Ibrahim confirmed on Tuesday night.
Speaking to Mihaaru, Minister Naseer stated that the high-profile guests will be invited to the national event scheduled to take place at the Social Centre in Malé on July 27 at 8:30 a.m.
“In the spirit of independence, the government appreciates the contributions of all leaders who have served the nation. That is why we have extended invitations,” said the minister.
Independence Day, is a celebration that belongs to the entire country, and the administration has said its policy is to recognise and honour national service. Particular attention will be paid to those who have served the nation, including former heads of state.
“Showing due respect and honor to our former presidents and vice presidents is an example of the moral shift President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is striving to cultivate in the country,” Minister Naseer added.
This year’s Independence Day festivities are expected to be vibrant and ceremonial. The Social Centre hall, which has a seating capacity of 1,500, will serve as the main venue for the official celebrations. The Ministry of Culture and Heritage has confirmed that invitations will be extended accordingly to accommodate guests.
In addition to the main event, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has also stated that they will invite all former presidents to the inauguration of the new terminal at Velana International Airport.
