The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has announced the temporary closure of parking areas at Velana International Airport (VIA) starting this Thursday, as final preparations are underway for the opening of the airport’s new terminal.

In a statement released today, MACL confirmed that both the east and west parking zones in Hulhulé will be closed to the public ahead of the inauguration ceremony for the new terminal, scheduled for July 26 — a key event commemorating the 60th anniversary of Maldivian independence.

All four-wheeled vehicles currently parked on the east side of the terminal must be removed before Thursday. Meanwhile, parking on the west side will be restricted from 6:00 p.m. onwards on the same day.

MACL also noted that vehicles left in either zone after the deadline will be removed in coordination with the Maldives Police Service.

“The company sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience this temporary change may cause to the public,” the statement read, adding that a reopening date for the parking zones will be announced at a later time.

The closure comes as MACL enters the final phase of preparations for the launch of VIA’s new terminal.
