15-year-old boy found dead after going missing at sea near Maamigili

A 15-year-old boy who went missing while snorkeling near ADh. Maamigili yesterday has been found dead, police said.

According to a police media official, the boy was reported missing around 7:00 p.m. last evening after going snorkeling with three other children in the sea off Maamigili.

The deceased has been identified as Looth Ahmed, from Roalhi, Maamigili.

A person speaking to Mihaaru News from the island said that the boy body was later recovered from the sea, close to the area where he had initially gone snorkeling. He was taken to the island’s health centre shortly after being found.

MNDF, police and residents of the island launched a joint search effort following the boy’s disappearance in the early evening.

The resident said that Looth and three and other friends had gone snorkeling in the evening. Looth was reported missing by the other children.

"It seems like Looth had gone a little further away after snorkeling with the others. The others had looked for Looth twice before reporting him missing," he said.

"[Looth] was discovered by divers searching the area".
