Over 1,000 accidents in six months, 121 injured

More than 1,100 road accidents were recorded in Malé City and on the Sinamalé Bridge during the first half of this year, resulting in injuries to 121 individuals, according to data released by Maldives Police Service.

Maldives Police Service has stated that more than 1,100 road accidents occurred in Malé City and on the Sinamalé Bridge in the first six months of 2025, resulting in injuries to 121 individuals.

According to statistics shared via the police’s social media channels, a total of 1,101 accidents were recorded from January 1 to June 30. Of these, 911 occurred within Malé City, while 190 were reported on the Sinamalé Bridge and adjacent highways.

Police reported that 121 people sustained injuries in the incidents, including 61 individuals who were seriously injured. A total of 1,107 vehicles sustained damage as a result of the accidents.

The majority of the accidents totaling 68 percent, or 745 cases occurred during daytime hours, while 356 took place at night, police said.

Collisions between motorcycles and cars accounted for most of the incidents. Police data indicates 295 accidents involved vehicles and 267 involved motorcycles.
