In a major accident that occurred in Male' tonight, a 17 year old has died, while two others have sustained serious injuries.

The accident occurred in front of Maafannu Bus Terminal on Boduthakurufaanu Magu.

A speeding motorcycle had hit a pedestrian crossing the road on a zebra crossing, then crashed into a passing pickup truck, Police said.

Three persons were injured in the incident. One, a 17 year old, died from their injuries. The condition of the other two victims is also serious, Police said. They are receiving treatment at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.

Videos of the accident are circulating on social media, which shows a large amount of blood pooled at the site. The front of the pickup was also damaged, and parts of the motorcycle and a helmet can be seen on the ground.

Police are investigating the accident.
