Zakariyya, who had been missing, discovered deceased

Zakariyya Mohamed, 79, of GDh. Gahdhoo, has been found deceased.

Zakariyya was reported missing on Thursday after he set out sailing alone between Gahdhoo and Gan in a dinghy.

A Police Media Official said that Zakariyya's body was discovered washed ashore on the southern side of Gan at 11:43 am.

The search team is currently in the process of recovering Zakariyya's body.

Zakariyya had left from Gahdhoo to Gan at around 9:30 am on Thursday. He was later spotted leaving Gan to return to Gahdhoo around 11:35 am on the same day. With no news since then, he was reported missing on Thursday afternoon.

Police and MNDF have been conducting a search for Zakariyya, covering a large area via sea and air. In their efforts, they found the dinghy submerged 10 metres under the sea.
