Housing Ministry yesterday commenced issuing new registries to recipients who were allocated land from Gulhi Falhu under the Binveriya housing scheme.
The registries are being issued at the site of the former Housing Ministry building.
The government changed the the previous administration's land use plan for Gulhi Falhu, with land previously allocated from Giraavaru Falhu being relocated to Gulhi Falhu. With this, the previous registries were voided, and a draw held to determine the exact land plots that recipients will be allocated.
On July 1, the ministry announced that they are accepting applications to receive the new registry. However, some of the recipients continue to refuse to sign the new agreement, citing inconsistencies in the new agreement with the policy on issuing land.
In a statement issued last Wednesday, the Housing Ministry said that although land registries were issued by the previous administration to those allocated land in Hulhumale', Gulhi Falhu and Giraavaru Falhu, for various reasons, changes have been brought to the Gulhi Falhu land use plan which, in effect, changes the location of plots awarded.
The location of the new land plots were determined through a draw.
The ministry stated that new agreements are being signed after identifying clauses in the previous contract that were inconsistent with the Land Act.
The ministry said that they will be working with the Attorney General's Office to find a viable solution for the issue.
