Demolition of Orchid Plaza begins

Work has commenced today on the demolition of Orchid Plaza, which has stood abandoned for years.

In a post on X today, Public Works Ministry said that the Orchid Plaza is being demolished as it may pose a danger to the public.

The ministry also said that Minister Adam Shareef Umar visited the site today to observe progress of the work.

Orchid Plaza, located on Buruzu Magu, was built by the government's former shipping company MNSL for residential use. With the building becoming increasingly dilapidated over the years, residents were moved out and the building has remained abandoned for many years now.

There later arose the issue of the abandoned building being used as a drug den, which caused multiple fire incidents in the building as well.
