MNDF has today recovered the dinghy that Zakariyya Mohamed was sailing in, submerged in the sea between GDh. Gahdhoo and Gan.
Zakariyya, 79, went missing after sailing alone between Gahdhoo and Gan in a dinghy on Thursday.
MNDF said that in their ongoing search for Zakariyya, divers located the dinghy which had sunk 10 metres in the sea between Gahdhoo and Gan.
The dinghy was located in today's second dive, conducted by MNDF in collaboration with Police.
Zakariyya still remains missing, and authorities are continuing the search for him. As of yesterday, MNDF had searched 2,307.99 square nautical miles by sea and 30,39 square nautical miles by air.
In addition to MNDF's Southern Area Command, Coast Guard Fourth Squadron, Gahdhoo Police, fishermen from Gahdhoo and the Gahdhoo Council are engaged in the search operation.
As per Police, Zakariyya was last seen wearing a blue short-sleeved t-shirt and black shorts.
Zakariyya set off to Gan from Gahdhoo at 9:30 am on Thursday. He was later seen starting his return trip at 11:15am on the same day. He has not been heard from since then.
