Police have urged the public to avoid engaging in water sports during this weekend as severe weather conditions persist.

Police cautioned against water sports and other ocean related activities until the weather clears, citing MET Office's forecast of heavy showers, rough seas and strong winds across most of the country.

Police said that they have received a high number of reports of marine incidents during these adverse weather conditions.

"Your safety is our top priority. Please stay updated via MET Office, Maldives and avoid unnecessary risks," Police said in a post on X.

MNDF Coast Guard has also said that they received reports of seven marine incidents yesterday.

In one such incident, a 75 year old man from GDh. Gahdhoo went missing yesterday while traveling between Gahdhoo and Gan in a dinghy. He remains missing while MNDF Southern Area Command Coast Guard Fourth Squadron continue the search.
