Boat sinks near Addu Ismehela Hera

A S. Meedhoo boat used for dredging sand has sunk yesterday.

A police media official said that that they received reports of the boat, named 'Iruveli', sinking outside Addu Ismehela Hera at around 12:30pm yesterday.

At the time the boat sank, a Bangladeshi man and a Sri Lankan man were on board. An RTL speedboat spotted them in the sea and rescued them.

Police said that the owner of the vessel is working on recovering the sunken boat.

With inclement weather across the country, other reports of marine incidents were also received yesterday. This includes a 75 year old man from GDh. Gahdhoo who went missing after going out to sea in a dinghy, and a 35 year old R. Atoll resort worker going missing after leaving in a canoe. The resort worker has since been found.
