Maldives Police Service's Professional Standards Command (PSD) has started an investigation into a case where a number of police officers stationed in Sh. Milandhoo have deposited large sums of money into their personal accounts.

Police have only stated that the matter is under investigation. No details of the number of officers or amount of money involved have been disclosed as of yet.

Officers at Sh. Milandhoo police station are being accused of depositing food allowance into personal bank accounts, Mihaaru News reports.

It has been reported that the officers colluded with the meal provider in doing so.

Police meals are arranged via a tendering process instead of distributing individual food allowances to officers.

This year's annual budget has an allocation of MVR 445 million for the provision of meals for Police and MNDF personnel.
