Treatment for blood disorders are set to begin at both IGMH and the Thalassemia Center.
India's very own Dr. Sachin, a renowned hematologist will be available for consultation as a visiting doctor at Dharumavantha Hospital, having been signed yesterday.
Dharumanvantha Hospital's Deputy CEO Dr. Shah Mahir told Mihaaru that there are currently no treatment options for thalassemia and other blood disorders at the hospital and that those affected go to private hospitals to get the care they need.
The Thalassemia Center had a hematologist available for consultation earlier, but their services are no longer available. Other government hospitals do not have a hematologist on call either.
IGMH and the Thalassemia Center will bring in Dr. Sachin for a set time each month. The doctors tend to be in charge of looking over OPD patients and treating patients who have been admitted to the health institutes. Leukemia and thalassemic patients will also be treated by Dr. Sachin within that timeframe.
Dr. Shah has stated that their long term plan is to implement all necessary services needed ahead of going abroad for bone marrow transplants.
"The plan is to make an exceptional hematology department and the foundation for that is slowly being laid," said Dr. Shah.
IGMH has said the treatment of blood disorders will get better due to specialist being present and that with the implementation and use of telemedicine, patients will still be able to get consultations even if he isn't physically on the premises.
