Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Managing Director Mauroof Jameel has today informed the staff of the company of his retirement.

Mauroof was appointed to the post on December 22 last year.

It has been reported that after retiring from his position on August 18, Mauroof will be serving in an advisory capacity to the government.

"He is stepping down from the position due to health reasons. This was decided earlier. That is why he informed ahead that he will be retiring from the 18th of next month," a senior official of HDC said.

Mauroof served 18 years working in various capacities on the development of Hulhumale'. He was appointed as MD of HDC after the resignation of former Ibrahim Fazul Rasheed, who had been accused of corruption.

Mauroof was an active contributor to the Hulhumale' development project even from the time the land was first reclaimed. He played a key role while at the Construction Ministry, and then later as CEO of HDC after it was first formed. He left HDC at the time to take up a position in the cabinet as Construction Minister in former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's final term in office.
