The Ministry of Tourism has announced that it is inviting parties to develop and operate a resort on Farumali, an island located within the lagoon of N. Maafaru.
The announcement comes after President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu officially designated Farumali as separate from Maafaru’s jurisdiction earlier today, in line with his pledge to open the area for tourism and economic development.
According to the ministry, the bid is for the reclamation of an island not exceeding 15 hectares within Farumali, along with a lagoon area measuring 71.18 hectares.
To assist interested parties, two virtual information sessions have been scheduled: the first on July 21 at 10:00 AM, and the second on August 18 at 10:00 AM. Those wishing to attend must email their name, contact number, and email address to the ministry at least one day prior to each meeting.
Bids must be submitted in person at the Ministry of Tourism, with the final deadline set for 10:00 AM on September 10.
Application forms are available on the ministry’s website, and the bid document will be issued directly by the ministry.
The government has stated that the development of a resort on Farumali is part of a broader plan to generate economic opportunities for residents of Maafaru and N. Atoll. The decision to open Farumali for tourism was made following public consultation.
