Aasandha has said today that to date, they have extended coverage for 33 patients who sought treatment from Thailand.
Aasandha provided these details in response to a Right to Information request filed by Mihaaru News.
They said that a policy has been created for seeking treatment from Thailand and UAE, under which arrangements have been made to extend support to patients.
Under this policy, 33 patients were provided Aasandha coverage to seek treatment in Bangkok, Thailand between January and May. Over MVR 1.5 million was spent on their treatment. One of these patients is currently in Bangkok for treatment.
Aasandha coverage in Thailand and UAE was introduced on January 15, with it being a presidential pledge of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
Patients who have undergone prolonged treatment in India or Sri Lanka without recovery are given priority for medical referral to Thailand. At present, patients in need of kidney transplants are sent to UAE.
Aasandha said that administrative work is in the process of being completed to send two patients to UAE for kidney transplant.
