The Parliament of the Maldives has launched a campaign today aimed at encouraging greater participation of women in politics.
According to a statement from the institution, the initiative is backed by the Australian Government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). It seeks to motivate and support women in engaging in political activities and inspire them to run for elected office in the future.
As part of the campaign, the “Practice Parliament Program” commenced today and will run until Saturday. This edition includes 39 women from across the Maldives.
The program will cover key topics including good governance, democracy, corruption, access to information, decentralization, and gender-related issues.
Now in its seventh edition, the Practice Parliament program has been held specifically for women since 2021. A total of 225 women have participated in the sessions conducted to date.
