As a measure taken for the safety of passengers, Maldivian has announced that use of power banks are now banned on flights.

This is an important measure taken to align with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), International Air Transport Association (IATA) and European Union Safety Agency standards, a statement released from Island Aviation, which operates national airline Maldivian, said.

Maldivian stated it is the first local airline to adopt this policy in accordance with global air transport standards, asserting that the airline always prioritizes the safety of passengers.

Under the new policy, each passenger is allowed to carry a maximum of two power banks. The power banks' capacity should not exceed 100 Wh.

Although power banks can be carried by passengers, use of power banks inflight is prohibited.

The policy also states:

- Once in the flight, the power bank should be kept in the passenger's hands, pockets of the seat or under the seat.

- Power banks cannot be carried in checked baggage or stored in overhead compartments.

- Recharging power banks, or use of power banks to charge another device are prohibited on the flight

- Ensure power banks are kept in conditions that prevent potential electrical issues.

The policy will be in effect from Sunday, June 6, the airline said.
