President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has decided that the new school under construction in Hulhumalé Phase 2 will be named "Shaheed Ali School" in honor of Shaheed Ali Rasgefaanu.
Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu announced the decision during a visit to inspect the construction site today. The school is being built by Rasheed Carpentry and Construction (RCC), with construction having begun in December 2023.

"The President has named it after Shaheed Ali Rasgefaanu to commemorate him and instill appreciation for the king in children's hearts," said Minister Ismail.

The school, which will offer classes from grades 1 to 10, is scheduled to begin classes in January 2026. Construction is expected to be completed by November this year.
Designed to accommodate 1,500 students in a single session, the school will include 54 classrooms, each with a capacity of 32 students. The facility will feature three elevators, air-conditioned classrooms, and will be powered entirely by solar energy.
According to the minister, the school will also include the largest school library in the Malé region, an auditorium, a hall, and a staff canteen.
Applications for student enrollment were opened by the Education Ministry last month. In the event of high demand, the ministry has announced that it may introduce a two-session system to accommodate more students conveniently.
