Parliament's Information and Communication Technology Committee meeting concerning the crimes that violate social media guidelines was held closed today on request from local authorities.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Abdulla Shareef stated that the reason the meeting should be held closed was due to the fact that some of the discussed material is something the public wouldn't want on their conscience.

High ranking officials from the MNDF and the Maldives Communications Authority were also present at the meeting.

The committee also held a meeting to discuss two key issues on 23rd June 2025.

The meeting covered trying to find solutions for issues that violate social media guidelines such as scams, online gambling, nudity, disrespectful behavior and pyramid schemes.

Public complaints have reached the People's Majlis regarding the aforementioned social media issues, with the meeting covering the complaints as well.

South Henveyru PNC Hussain Imran Latheef urged to not only look at the occurrence of pyramid schemes but the prevalent scams on social media as well.
