420 vehicles towed from Majeedhee Magu and Boduthakurufaanu Magu

Due to the increase in vehicles that are being parked illegally, the aforementioned roads have become quite congested and in an attempt to remedy that, authorities began towing and removing said vehicles, an initiative that began last month.

Authorities have stated that 420 vehicles that were parked illegally have been towed from Majeedhee Magu and Boduthakurufaanu Magu.

Due to the increase in vehicles that are being parked illegally, the aforementioned roads have become quite congested and in an attempt to remedy that, authorities began towing and removing said vehicles, an initiative that began last month.

The authorities have consistently been towing vehicles from 12th June till 30th June, with the effort continuing today as well.

- 216 motorbikes

- Two cars

- One motorbike got towed more than once

Number of vehicles towed from Boduthakurufaanu Magu

- 164 motorbikes

- 64 cars

- One car got towed more than once

Cones and police tape have been put up to enforce the fact it is prohibited to park along these major roads. Some parts of the road even have barricades put up to deter parking.

Authorities have said that the towed vehicles will be released after 48 hours. Said vehicles will also be released after a fine of MVR 750 has been paid, along with any other unpaid fines and unpaid yearly fees needing to be paid and settled.

Due to the increase of double-sided parking on Majeedhee Magu, authorities advise drivers to leave their vehicles at authorized parking zones. It is prohibited to park any manner of vehicle along the tarred section of Boduthakurufaanu Magu. Along with these major streets, parts of the road along Artificial Beach and King Salman Mosque also have multiple vehicles being parked there.
