President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to expand tourism in atolls with low resort density, in accordance with his pledge.

The President said that details of this will be revealed in the coming week by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment.

In a post on X, President Muizzu said that these efforts will commence as he had pledged in his manifesto and Presidential Address in parliament in February.

Atolls marked for tourism development include HA, HDh, Sh, Th, L and Addu City, he said.

The plan is to be implemented through a comprehensive approach, involving concessions, incentives, public infrastructure upgrades and focused promotion to drive investment and economic activity.

The President also announced yesterday that specific islands will be designated for the development of halal tourism.
