A new empowerment hub for people with disabilities is set to be established in Hulhumale'.

An agreement was signed between Maldives Zakat House and the Ministry of Social and Family Development yesterday at a special ceremony held at the Islamic Centre.

Director General Sheikh Izzaddin Adnan signed on behalf of Zakat House, while State Minister Ibrahim Ismail Ali represented the Ministry of Social and Family Development.

According to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, the Social and Family Development Ministry requested assistance from Zakat House to support the construction of the hub. Zakat House formally agreed to assist on 19 March.

The hub is intended to provide a wide range of opportunities for the growing population of people with disabilities in Maldives. Its focus will include skills development, Islamic education, religious programming, and financial empowerment.

The agreement spans 25 years.

The hub will be located on the first floor of Amaan Udhares Tower 7, currently under construction by Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation Limited in Hulhumale' Phase 2.

The ministry said the facility will offer substantial benefits for people with disabilities, enhancing access to education, community activities, and economic opportunities.
