Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) said today that one person remains missing following the capsizing of a landing craft in the Kaashidhoo Channel yesterday.

The vessel, LC 308, was carrying six people including three MNDF personnel and three Bangladeshi nationals when it overturned at around 10:30 am.

Two people were initially reported missing. One of them, Warrant Officer 2 Ali Haamid, was later recovered and taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Haamid, from Thaa atoll Hirilandhoo, had served in the MNDF for 27 years. His funeral was held yesterday at Hulhumale' Cemetery.
