Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is set to make an official visit to the Maldives next month, marking his first trip to the country since taking office.

According to Sri Lankan media reports citing senior government officials, Dissanayake is expected to arrive in Maldives on 29 July for a three-day visit.

The trip will focus on strengthening bilateral relations and marks his sixth overseas visit since assuming the presidency last year.

A Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry official said the visit is scheduled to take place after Maldives celebrates the 60th anniversary of its independence on 26 July. July 29 also marks 60 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Maldives and Sri Lanka.

The Maldives government has not yet made an official statement regarding the visit.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also reportedly expected to attend the Maldives' Independence Day celebrations. However, neither the Maldivian nor Indian governments have confirmed his visit.
