The Islamic Ministry has announced a decision to extend and standardize the interval between the Adhan (call to prayer) and the Iqamah (start of congregational prayer) in all mosques across the Maldives.

In a statement released today, the Ministry said the decision was made based on the recommendation of the National Council for Mosque Affairs, in response to public concerns about the insufficient time available to perform Sunnah prayers between the Adhan and Iqamah.

Currently, the duration between the Adhan and Iqamah varies from mosque to mosque and across different islands. To address this inconsistency, the Ministry has introduced fixed time intervals for each of the five daily prayers:

- Fajr (Dawn): 15 minutes

- Dhuhr (Noon): 12 minutes

- Asr (Afternoon): 12 minutes

- Maghrib (Sunset): 8 minutes

- Isha (Night): 10 minutes

The Ministry has also confirmed that the new timing guidelines have been officially communicated to local councils for implementation.
