Maldives Immigration has launched its largest operation of the year, "Hama Magu", to detain undocumented expatriates in Addu City.

In a post on X, Immigration said the raid which began today is one of the most extensive undertaken this year and is part of ongoing efforts to address undocumented expat population in Maldives.

Immigration Controller Ahmed Faseeh and Deputy Controller Ahmed Ashfan are taking part in the operation, which involves 35 immigration officers working in coordination with Addu City police. Members of the Addu City Council are also participating.

To date, more than 5,000 undocumented expatriates have been deported under immigration operations across the country.

So far, the government has collected biometric data from over 151,000 expatriates. Authorities have warned that expats who fail to provide their biometric information will be deported starting next month.

The government has set a target to resolve the issue of undocumented migrants in the Maldives by April 2027.
