First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has announced the establishment of a voluntary organization focused on improving health services in Maldives.
The announcement was made during her participation in the committee meeting of the 7th Merck Foundation First Ladies Initiative (MFFLI) Summit.
According to the President’s Office, the First Lady said she was inspired to found the organization after witnessing the impact of the Merck Foundation’s work. A video presentation highlighting her health-related initiatives over the past six years was also shared at the summit.
During the meeting, First Lady Sajidha expressed her commitment to improving access to affordable and quality healthcare services in the Maldives and emphasized the importance of maintaining long-term technical partnerships to strengthen the sector.
She also highlighted the need to raise community awareness and improve services in areas such as cancer screening and mental health. In addition, she called for greater support for women’s leadership and participation in the health sector.
The First Lady further highlighted her work in partnership with the Merck Foundation to promote awareness around infertility, reduce stigma associated with infertility, and address other key health issues, including diabetes, hypertension, and women's empowerment.
