Housing Minister Dr Abdulla Muththalib has announced that the government will begin allocating flats to beneficiaries under the Binveriyaa housing scheme from next month, as construction work on the 4,000 flats in Hulhumale' Phase two nears completion.

Speaking to state media PSM after inspecting the project site alongside President Dr Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday evening, the minister said significant progress had been made on the development since the new administration took office.

He noted that most interior work on the buildings has now been completed.

"Compared to when we took over, the pace of the project has increased considerably," said Minister Muththalib.

Utility services including electricity, water, and sewerage were not initially included in the original scope of the project. However, the government has since awarded those works to state-owned utility providers STELCO and MWSC under a separate contract.

“This is more than just a typical housing project,” Muththalib said.

“We hope to hand over the 4,000 flats to beneficiaries by September so they can begin moving in.”

Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) Managing Director Hamdhan Shakeel also said that a large portion of the work has already been completed, with only the utility connections remaining.

The 4,000 flats comprising both two-bedroom and three-bedroom units were launched under the administration of former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. Construction is being carried out by two Indian firms: Kalpataru Projects International Limited (KPIL) and the National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC).

The government reviewed the original list of beneficiaries released by the previous administration and published a revised list in April. It includes 1,820 recipients: including 1,423 for three-bedroom units and 397 for two-bedroom flats.

At a recent press conference, Minister Muththalib said the final list of recipients would remain as issued by the previous government. However, individuals found to be ineligible will be removed from the list.
