Police have begun towing vehicles parked on Boduthakurufaanu Magu near Artificial Beach area in Malé.

In a statement issued by police today, they said that efforts were underway to organize roads in Malé to facilitate easier traffic and movement for people driving and walking on the roads.

Under this initiative, police said they are towing vehicles parked illegally on Boduthakurufaanu Magu from the beginning of Hithagas Magu to Meheli Goalhi (Henveiru Artificial Beach area), which obstruct general traffic and public transport.

Police warned that action will also be taken against drivers of vehicles parked illegally on that road.

Parking vehicles anywhere along the marked sections of Boduthakurufaanu Magu is prohibited. However, parking vehicles in the Artificial Beach area and around Salman Mosque has now become common practice.

To indicate that parking is prohibited on that road, police have now placed cones and tape. Barricades have also been installed in some sections.

Police said towed vehicles from that area will be released after 48 hours.

Police release towed vehicles upon payment of MVR 750 fine, along with clearing any other outstanding vehicle fines and unpaid annual fees.

Police began towing vehicles parked illegally on Majeedhee Magu last week. Majeedhee Magu is also a road where vehicle parking is prohibited.
