Ministry of Housing has said that the list of recipients under the 4,000-flat scheme announced by the previous government includes individuals who have already been allocated flats in earlier housing projects.
A ministry official told Mihaaru News that some applicants had received flats through previous schemes such as Vinares and Hiyaa. These individuals have now been excluded from the updated list.
“Among the 4,000 applicants are those who already have flats registered in their name. For instance, if someone has been allocated a Vinares or Hiyaa flat, they will no longer be eligible under this scheme,” the official said.
He said that the information was verified through relevant government agencies.
According to the official, housing schemes are intended for those without existing homes. In cases where both members of a couple are eligible, only one will be allowed to claim the flat, and the other must withdraw.
The government reviewed the original list of 4,000 flats under construction in Hulhumale', announced by the previous administration, and published a revised list of eligible recipients in April.
The updated list identifies 1,820 beneficiaries include 1,423 for three-bedroom flats and 397 for two-bedroom flats.
At a recent press conference, Housing Minister Dr Abdulla Muththalib said the final list would remain as issued by the administration of former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, with no alternate list under consideration.
However, individuals who no longer meet eligibility criteria will be removed. This includes those who have submitted invalid documents or received land or housing through other government schemes. If both spouses have been awarded a flat, only one will retain eligibility.
The minister previously stated that final selections would be made from applicants who scored more than 75 points in the evaluation process.
