MET Office records indicate that the strongest winds yesterday were in Hulhule' and B. Dharavandhoo, at 54 mph.
Meanwhile in Hdh. Hanimadhoo, wind speeds were recorded at 50 mph.
In HDh. Kulhudhuhfushi and Makunudhoo, wind speeds were at 49 mph.
Some areas of Maldives experienced extremely strong winds yesterday, with a flight travelling from Velana International Airport to Kulhudhuhfushi left unable to land due to strong winds and having to return.
Yesterday evening, strong winds in Hulhumale' caused some trees to be uprooted as well.
MET Office said that today, in islands in north and central Maldives, wind direction will generally be from west and southwest at 13 to 23 mph. The southern atolls are expected to see windspeeds of 5 to 15 mph.
Gusts of 45 mph hour are expected.
Seas will be rough in north and central Maldives, with wave heights of 4 to 7 feet.
Seas in the southern atolls will be moderately calm with wave heights of 2 to 4 feet.
MET Office predicts rain in the northern atolls, with intermittent showers in central Maldives.
