Police have rejected claims on social media that Raudh Ahmed Zilal, arrested in relation to Hawwa Yumn Rasheed's fall from a building on April 18, has left the country.

Police confirmed that Raudh remains in Maldives, and stated that the travel ban against him remains in effect.

Rumours that Raudh has left the country emerged in social media together with a photograph showing Raudh with his family at Velana International Airport.

The Prosecutor General's Office has now charged Raudh in the case, with failure to provide assistance to a person in need without an acceptable reason. The charge carries a prison sentence of 1 month and 6 days.

Although Police had also applied for charges to be pressed for intoxication at the time of the incident, the State did not charge Raudh with this. The Prosecutor General's Office said yesterday that this charge was not pressed due to procedural issues in how Police had obtained a urine sample from Raudh for drug testing.

A urine sample was taken from Raudh the day after the incident. Although testing showed Raudh positive for cannabis, he was not arrested at the time. Raudh was initially arrested six days after the incident.

Yumn fell on to the roof of H. Mitaaz from what Police have said is a fanlight on the 9th floor stairwell of adjacent H. Fentenoy in the early hours of April 18.

When Raudh was arrested on April 24, Police accused him of involvement in Yumn's fall, being in a state of intoxication at the time of the incident and sexual use.

After several extensions of his remand, Raudh was released on April May 22. Just hours after his release, he was rearrested under a new court order and placed in remand in custody for a period of five days. Police released him again at the end of this period.

PG Office has said that Raudh was released as his time in remand in custody may exceed the sentence that could be passed on him.
