Search is underway for a 26-year-old Japanese tourist who went missing while diving in the lagoon near Kaafu atoll Maafushi this morning, Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) said.
The man was part of a group of tourists diving at Kandoomaa Thila. He was last seen at around 10 am and was wearing black diving gear and a white mask, MNDF said.
The diver had joined the excursion from a guesthouse in Maafushi.
MNDF has launched a search operation in the surrounding area.
