Ministry of Transport has announced that vehicle movement will be prohibited on all roads in Male' and Vilimale' today from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, as part of special regulations being implemented for Eid.

However, the restriction does not apply to Hulhumale', where vehicles are allowed to operate as usual during the same hours.

The vehicle ban in Male' and Vilimale' applies to both motor vehicles and battery-operated vehicles. This measure aligns with a decision announced earlier by MAle' City Council, which stated that vehicle traffic would be restricted annually on Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm in these areas to promote a more pedestrian-friendly atmosphere.

Emergency vehicles are exempt from this restriction, and the City Council’s public services section issued special stickers for them until 3:45 pm today.

Both the Transport Ministry and the Maldives Police Service have said that the ban applies to Male; and Vilimale'. No restrictions have been issued for Hulhumale' today, even though a similar ban was initially announced for all areas during this year’s Eid al-Fitr.

That previous restriction, which included Hulhumale', was canceled just an hour after going into effect, with no official explanation provided.

Authorities have warned that legal action will be taken against those who violate today’s restriction in Male' and Vilimale'.
