Block A building of Iskandhar School which has been dilapidated for a long time is finally being demolished after nearly a decade of disrepair and safety concerns.

The two-storey structure, located near the main entrance and originally built 64 years ago, had been declared unsafe on two separate occasions over the past eight years following expert assessments.

Although seven large classrooms in the block were closed for six years due to structural concerns, the ground floor continued to house administrative spaces, including offices for the principal, deputy principals, teachers, and the school’s health room.

In 2022, a person familiar with the school’s condition told Mihaaru News that the deputy principals' office would flood during heavy rains. Despite repeated warnings, full demolition was delayed, leaving over 2,000 students dependent on the remaining B and C blocks for classes.

Ministry of Education said that the demolition work has begun, and a new building with 21 classrooms will be constructed on the same site to address overcrowding and improve the learning environment.

People have raised concerns over inadequate facilities and visible cracks in existing blocks, which have reduced the number of usable classrooms and created challenges for both teachers and students.
