Eid Malhi lighting in Hulhumale' tonight to launch festivities

Eid celebrations in Hulhumale’ will begin tonight with the lighting of the Eid Malhi; a traditional palm leaf pyre lit over a shallow reef.

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) announced the festivities will begin at 8:30 pm, marking the first time the Eid Malhi will be featured in Hulhumale'.

A video shared on HDC’s official X account shows preparations taking place near the guesthouse area.HDC is planning a vibrant Eid celebration this year, with a lineup of traditional and family-friendly events across multiple locations, including Central Park and Hiyaa Park.

- Thursday: Vedhumaa Dhiyun, Eid Malhi lighting (8:30 pm at Ruhgandu 1) and Boduberu show (9:00 pm at Channel Beach, Hulhumale' Phase 2)

- Friday: Ulhiya slaughter and Eid Bondibaiy (after Eid prayers, Hulhumale' Cricket Stadium area) and water sports (4:00 to 5:30 pm at Ruhgandu 1)

- Friday to Tuesday: Children's evenings at Central Park and Hiyaa Park

HDC has invited children and families to join in the celebrations and aims to create a joyful, unified atmosphere for the community.

While many residents traditionally travel to islands for Eid, this year’s festivities in the Male' area, including Hulhumale’, are expected to be lively and widely attended. Events will also take place at Sultan Park and Republic Square in Male'.
