Local Government Authority (LGA) has called on local councils to ensure that Eid celebrations remain within the bounds of Islamic principles and do not violate social norms.

In a circular sent to city, atoll, and island councils, LGA said that the core objective of Eid festivities is to promote community unity, social cohesion, and the revival of Islamic values.

LGA reminded councils that it is their legal responsibility to ensure that all Eid-related activities comply with Islamic rules and general societal standards.

The Ministry of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works has also urged citizens to celebrate Eid in accordance with Islamic guidelines.

This year’s national Eid celebrations are being held in Haa Alif Kelaa, Kaafu Guraidhoo, and Laamu Gan, with many already traveling to the islands for the festivities.
