MACL urges early check-in due to overcrowding at Velana International Airport

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has urged passengers to arrive early at Velana International Airport (VIA) due to congestion.

In a post shared on X, MACL said today is a particularly busy day at the airport as construction is ongoing on roads connecting to the new terminal, while a large number of people are traveling.

With many people leaving for the Eid holidays, the airport is experiencing an unusually high volume of traffic today and is expected to remain crowded through tomorrow.

MACL advised passengers to reach the airport by the start of check-in to avoid delays.

This year’s Hajj is tomorrow, and Eid Al-Adha will be celebrated on Friday. With this, the public is enjoying a five-day Eid holiday.

Part of the new international terminal at Velana International Airport is scheduled to open on July 26, and roadwork related to the new terminal is currently underway.
