Police have launched an investigation into a death threat made against lawyer Mahfooz Saeed on social media.

The threat surfaced after a man tagged Mahfooz’s account on X and asked him "if he wanted to be stabbed". The account from which the threatening post was made yesterday was deleted shortly afterward.

In response, Mahfooz shared the threat on X, remarking that he was at least “asked before doing such a thing.” He added that there was no justification for such threats, and asked not to act on the threat.

This is not the first time Mahfooz has faced such an incident. Around nine years ago, he was attacked with a knife to the head in a targeted assault.

In that case, the state had pressed charges against Firaz Jaufar, Flat 3-60, Hulhumale', Khalid Nafeeu, H. Senaa, Ahmed Raaidh, 11270 Hulhumale', and Hussain Shafraz, Karankaage, Th. Guraidhoo.

However, the Criminal Court later acquitted all of them, despite them having followed Mahfooz before the attack.
