An agreement has been signed today where Japan will extend aid of JPY 194 million (USD 1.3 million) for the six scholarships granted to Maldives under Japan's Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS).
The Exchange of Notes was signed by Foreign Ministry's State Minister Sherina AbduSamad and Japanese Ambassador to Maldives Ishigami Rumiko.
The Foreign Ministry said that JDS scholarships have been provided to Maldives since August 2020 to develop human resources in Maldives.
JDS scholarships are offered to Civil Service staff, permanent staff of independent institutions, courts and other related institutions who hold a Bachelors Degree. These staff must hold a minimum of two years of work experience and be full-time staff at the time of application.
Under the scholarship, two placements are provided from each university. The Japanese government covers all expenses, including flights to and from Japan, living expenses, transport expenses and study expenses.
