Preparations are underway to begin scheduled seaplane trips to AA. Ukulhas from Male'.
Ukulhas Council President Shaukath Ibrahim said that the plans for seaplane trips had been initiated by Kaani Hotels, which is currently building a 250 bed city hotel in Ukulhas.
The company's sixth guesthouse is set to begin operations in September.
Shaukath said that exclusivity of seaplane trips to Ukulhas has been granted to Manta Air. A team from the airline had visited Ukulhas yesterday within their efforts to commence the service.
Shaukath said that although Ukulhas is not far from Male', the public has been looking forward to the service. One of the reasons for this is the rough sea 'Alihuras kan'du' between Male' and Ukulhas.
The seaplane services will be provided for both locals and tourists. The airline will offer two special fares for Maldivians.
Ukulhas currently has 35 guesthouses of total 800 beds capacity operating on it. Shaukath estimates that this will rise to 1200 upon completion of those currently under construction.
