Civil Court has ruled in favor of Sunfront, ordering the state to pay MVR 20 million in compensation over a long-standing land dispute.
The case dates back to 2010, when Sunfront paid MVR 26 million to purchase two 2,000 square foot plots in the southwest harbor area. These were among 11 plots the government had opened for sale at the time.
However, the company never received the land due to a High Court order that halted the bid process.
While Sunfront was paid the original MVR 26 million in 2014, the company filed a lawsuit seeking MVR 20 million in damages for losses incurred during the years the funds were withheld.
Civil Court, in its judgment yesterday, found that the submitted documents proved the claimed losses and awarded Sunfront MVR 20 million in compensation. The state has been ordered to pay the amount within 30 days.
