Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage has launched a competition to design a special logo in celebration of the 60th anniversary of Maldives’ independence.

The winning entry will receive a cash prize of MVR 30,000.

The logo competition is part of this year’s Independence Day celebrations, which will be held on July 26. The ministry has announced that the deadline for submissions is July 15 at 2:00 pm.

According to the ministry, a set of guidelines has been established to ensure the logo reflects the significance of the occasion. The logo should embody key elements of Islam, the Dhivehi language, Maldivian culture and heritage, national identity, and the concept of sovereignty, the ministry said.

Designers are expected to create a logo that not only commemorates the 60th anniversary of the Maldives' independence but also reflects the progress made over the past six decades and the nation’s aspirations for continued freedom and development.

The ministry also outlined specific color preferences. In addition to using the national colors, designers may include blue, which represents the Maldivian sea and natural environment.

Functionality and versatility are key requirements. The logo must be adaptable for use across various mediums, including badges, stickers, banners, t-shirts, print materials, electronic media, animations, and videos.

Entries will be judged based on four main criteria: 30 marks for quality, technical aspects, composition, and design elements; 20 marks for originality, creativity, and craftsmanship; 20 marks for capturing Maldivian identity; and 30 marks for effectively symbolizing the essence of 60 years of Maldivian independence.
